2009 Awards
Charles Sutton Medal
Western Bulldogs midfielder Matthew Boyd has been acknowledged for his fantastic season by winning the 2009 Charles Sutton Medal. Boyd finished the night with 154 votes, ahead of last years winner Daniel Cross who finished in second position (145 votes) and Dale Morris (133 votes) in third place.
Boyd’s first Charles Sutton Medal caps off a memorable year for the 27 year old, who was recently named in the 2009 All Australian side. Orginally promoted from the Club’s rookie list in 2003, before this evening Boyd had already been honoured with the 2007 Match Committee Award and finished in 3rd position in the 2008 Charles Sutton Medal.
Hard running midfielder Daniel Cross lead the count for most of the night, however an ankle injury late in the season opened the door for Boyd to claim the award.
Captain Brad Johnson finished in fourth position on 131 votes, while All Australian back pocket Brian Lake rounded off the top 5 with 125 votes.
