Forever Foundation

The Whitten Oval redevelopment is one of the most significant projects undertaken for this outstanding site in some 126 years. It was 1879 when the local council first gave permission for the Footscray Football Club to use the Western Reserve as their home ground. Since that time, this prime piece of hallowed real estate has witnessed the growth of one of the proudest clubs in Victoria, a club steeped in history, a club that has lived true to it’s motto ”Cede Nullis” – Yield to None.

Both players and supporters alike have always had an affection for the location, a place where generation after generation grew up loving their mighty team, win or lose. Now is the time for this once majestic suburban centrepiece to again become a proud and important asset, to the West, and it’s only football club, the Western Bulldogs.

This project is much more than turning some soil and painting some buildings, this project is about building a solid future.
This project, when completed, will play an integral role in guaranteeing the financial stability of the Western Bulldogs. This asset will make an end to the ‘survival’ mentality, and turn the Western Bulldogs into a financially sound and confidently proud secure organisation. Much more than a football ground. This project is a lot more than a football ground refurbishment. Once completed the Whitten Oval will provide a new heart for the West.

The new Whitten Oval will be a vibrant asset for the public and business to use and enjoy. How and when is the project happening?

The project is being made possible through support and funding from parties who understand the importance and value of the location and immense benefits it can provide to the West. Support is coming from many parties, Federal and State Governments, the AFL, the Western Bulldogs Forever Foundation, together with local municipalities and supporters. The project is already underway and it is expected to be completed by early 2007.
