About the group:  On match days the main objective of the Western Bulldogs Cheer Squad is to provide audible and visual support for the Western Bulldogs and its players, by cheering loudly, waving flags and floggers and to encourage other supporters to join in. The Cheer Squad can be seen and heard at every game the Western Bulldogs play in Victoria and interstate. Behind the scenes the Cheer Squad offer the Western Bulldogs Football Club assistance by volunteering with working bees, mail outs, fundraising and other club functions.

The Cheer Squad is designed for individual and family participation and offers an area at Western Bulldogs matches close to the action; people can sit and enjoy the beloved game of AFL and supporting the Doggies in a friendly atmosphere where alcohol is not permitted and unseemly conduct is not tolerated.

Any person who is a supporter of the Western Bulldogs can be a member of the cheer squad and is designed for family participation. Cheer Squad members are expected to attend as many Western Bulldogs games as possible, although it is not compulsory to attend every game. When attending Western Bulldogs games it is expected that Cheer Squad members sit with the Western Bulldogs Cheer Squad and cheer loudly and make a strong visual impact by waving flags and floggers. The Western Bulldogs conduct of coterie and club support groups guidelines and The Australian Football League AFL Cheer Squad guidelines must be abided by at all times. There is no age restriction on Cheer Squad membership

Major Events:

Weekly Banner Making A dedicated team of Western Bulldogs Cheer Squad members meet Thursday or Friday to create the banner.

On match day, before the general public enters the ground six members of Cheer Squad enter the ground and put the run through on the poles, up to 25 members of the Cheer Squad take the banner onto the ground ready to lift up for the players to run through.

Due to the maximum size of banner (8m x 18m) the banner’s wording is restricted to four lines with approximately 20 characters per line.

Under the guidelines set by the AFL messages on banners cannot be derogatory or offensive towards the Western Bulldogs, another team, the AFL, the public or any other person.
