Season in short:

The athletic key man was a livewire early, soaring for high marks, crashing packs and booting two bags of four goals in the first five weeks. Jones continued to create inside-50 contests and contribute goals throughout the season – working hard to improve his game. Against Geelong in round five, Jones displayed his scintillating best with four majors and six marks, including two brilliant contested grabs in front of goal. Overall, his 19-game season yielded 22 goals. Jones booted an impressive nine majors from two games with Williamstown late in the year and will look to consolidate his forward-line role in the off-season.

Stat that mattered:

Despite playing one less game than 2011, Jones bettered his previous best goal kicking tally (19), booting 22 majors in 2013. Across the season, Jones averaged more than one goal per game, while having a hand in a number of other scoring opportunities.

What they said:

“We’ve been confident for a long time about Liam coming along… externally people are now taking more notice but we have been seeing small steps for about 18 months.”

- Senior Coach Brendan McCartney after round five, 2013

Pre-season focus:

Another summer of building strength and fitness is ahead of Jones as he continues to establish himself as one of the Bulldogs forward targets. While he demonstrated he can take a mark in 2013, a focus on goal kicking and conversion is likely to help the 22-year-old make an even bigger impact next year.
