The Footscray Bulldogs will make a return to competitive football at Victoria University Whitten Oval after the Peter Jackson VFL fixture was released today.

Five games will be played at the Bulldogs’ spiritual home ground in 2014, including four blockbusters against Richmond, Carlton (Northern Blues), Essendon and Hawthorn (Box Hill) respectively.

The Footscray Bulldogs will also play three games at Simonds Stadium, one of which is a traditional curtain-raiser against Geelong’s VFL team in round 13.

Chief Executive Simon Garlick said it was a great outcome to have football return to the VU Whitten Oval.

“We see this as a great opportunity for the Bulldogs community to help re-establish the Victoria University Whitten Oval as the home of footy in Melbourne’s west – while at the same time seeing first-hand the development of our future stars, who will have the chance to compete on the same iconic turf many of our past greats did,” Garlick said.

“Having home games here against some of our traditional foes in Essendon, Richmond, Carlton and Hawthorn will also give our Bulldogs faithful, young and old, glimpses into some of the great clashes we’ve had here in years past.”

Other prominent games include the round two clash against Williamstown at Burbank Oval, and a round 11 bout with Collingwood at Victoria Park.
