Matthew Boyd is expected to be in the selection mix for Saturday night’s clash against the Brisbane Lions, with medical staff confident he’ll overcome the hamstring tightness that saw him a late withdrawal from Sunday’s loss to Fremantle.

While the Club veteran was given until game day to prove his fitness for the Fremantle clash, Medical Services Manager Andrew McKenzie said the Club erred on the side of caution.

“Matt was still carrying some tightness throughout the week, we gave him every chance to get up to play but felt it was in his best interests to not continue with the game this week,” McKenzie said.

“He will train in the main session this week and we expect that he will be available.”

Meanwhile defender Daniel Pearce is also expected to line-up for his first game since injuring the Medial Collateral Ligament in his knee during a VFL practice match earlier in the year.

“Daniel has been training really well, he’s been in rehab for a while now but he’s feeling great and he’s been in training for a week and a half so he’ll be available to play this week,” he said.

McKenzie added Bulldogs duo Clay Smith and Tory Dickson were also making progress on their long term injuries.

“Clay and Tory are both status quo, they are doing the rehab they need to be doing, they are managing their injuries specifically and trying to maintain the condition in the rest of their body,” he said.
