Half-back Jason Johannisen will be monitored with view of returning against North Melbourne this weekend, after calf tightness ruled him out of Sunday’s win against St Kilda.

Johannisen came from the training track at last Thursday’s main training session, and a conservative approach saw him miss a weekend of football.

UPDATE: Easton Wood out for season

“JJ tightened up in the calf during the week, and we decided not to take a risk with that, and so he had the weekend off,” Western Bulldogs Medical Services Manager Andrew McKenzie said.

“But we expect him to return to the training group this week, and we’ll assess him [closer to team selection].”

Having not missed a game since returning to the senior side against Gold Coast in Cairns, Johannisen will be looking to add his eight match tally this season, after re-signing with the Club last month.

Meanwhile, Johannisen’s replacement in the senior line-up, Easton Wood, will undergo scans this afternoon on his right hand after injuring it in a contest with Nick Riewoldt in the final term against St Kilda.

Wood returned to the field with a glove on his hand to finish off the game.

“We assessed it afterwards, and we’ll get some x-rays this afternoon to see what is going on.”

Brett Goodes will be monitored throughout the week at training, after he left the field during the final quarter of Sunday’s VFL win over Werribee with back tightness.
