Over 200 primary school students converged on Victoria University Whitten Oval last Thursday for the annual Western Bulldogs Multicultural Schools Cup.

Seven schools participated in the round robin gala day of football, which provides students that are born or have one or more parents born overseas, with the opportunity to play football in a fun and friendly environment.

The sportsmanship and skills on show were a credit to all involved, with St Albans Girls and Mother of God boys finishing on top of their respective ladders at the end of the day and progressing through to next week’s AFL Victoria State Multicultural Cup finals at Punt Road Oval.

The round-robin competition is a conclusion to the Multicultural Schools Program run by the Western Bulldogs in schools around Melbourne’s West, which teaches students the skills of Australian Rules Football as well as promoting key themes of leadership, respect, fair Play, teamwork and harmony.

Students in the program also received player visits, free ticketing offers, Whitten Oval tours and loads of giveaways over the course of the year.
