Newly-appointed Club Captain Robert Murphy is “relishing” his new role, and has already won many admirers amongst the playing group for his approach as the new leader of the pack.

In his first official duty since being appointed, Murphy spoke with Bulldogs members earlier this week at a social club function.

“To Captain the footy club is something that feels precious now,” Murphy said.

After a busy off-season at the Club, Murphy said it was an easy decision to take on the role.

“With the upheaval of the past few months… I kind of made up my mind in an instant that I wanted to be the Captain.

“Thankfully the Club shared that opinion and the players were kind enough to vote me in.”

When asked about the sort of captain he hopes to be, Murphy was frank.

“I’ll be myself and lead by example.”

After a gruelling session on the track on Monday, Murphy was joined on stage by Jake Stringer and Marcus Bontempelli, who threw their support behind Murphy.

“All the young boys are looking forward to playing under him, and taking the Club somewhere special,” Stringer said.

The Bulldogs faithful showed just as much support giving Murphy a standing ovation as he entered the stage, and giving him a rousing response as he shared his plans for season 2015.

“I just can’t wait to get out on the green stuff out there and lead the boys and hopefully give a few other teams a fair few headaches.”
