The Bulldogs playing group are half-way through their pre-season camp and High Performance Manager Justin Cordy says the players are adjusting well to the training demands.

Based in Mooloolaba, the group has spent the past five days on the Sunshine Coast and Cordy has been pleased with their output, following an open training session on Sunday that included nearly an hour of match simulation.

“They went well, it was tough conditions today,” Cordy told BulldogsTV.

“We noticed in Melbourne it was 14 (degrees) and raining, it’s nice to be on the Sunshine Coast, we had a good bit of heat for the guys and I think they responded well.”

The value of heat training is integral to the Club’s final preparations before the season, and after a round one match in the Perth heat in 2014, Cordy said it was important they prepared the group for any conditions.

“To have such a long session up here in this sort of environment really means it does test them, pushes them both physically and mentally but (it) also gives us a chance to get their preparation right.”

Although the training camp is set to challenge the group physically, Cordy said the change of surroundings and the full-time camp environment brought with it additional benefits.

“We’ve got a little more time here which the coaches are spending on education, strategy and those types of things.

“Getting away up here gives us a chance to get together, obviously we train in a different environment… and it’s a good opportunity for the guys to get out and enjoy each other’s company.”
