Newly appointed Western Bulldogs Chief Executive Officer David Stevenson has a clear vision for his new Club, emphasising his aspirations for growth.

Stevenson, a current senior executive at Nike’s global headquarters in the United States, said a top priority would be removing the small club tag that has often been associated with the Bulldogs.

“I think one of the most important long term objectives of our Club is to stop being considered a small Club.

“We want to be proud, we want to be a large Club… and we want to make sure that we’re successful and that people want to be a part of us because they’re passionate and inspired by us.”

On-field success, community projects and member relations would be key focuses for Stevenson, who said those components would ultimately contribute to the Club’s future success.

Stevenson was equally buoyed by the Club’s on-field prospects, citing that as an important factor for him in pursuing the role.

“It’s really exciting the future of the Club and I think the playing list has terrific potential.

“They’re very young, we’ve got a lot of great coaches to develop them but I see enormous upside in the strength of our list and I think with the right environment, and we enable that success, I think it’s a pretty exciting few years ahead and I can’t wait to be a part of that journey.”

Stevenson said building relationships would be a short-term focus of his, as he commences with the Club in August.

“Really getting to know the team on an individual basis, and really unlocking their potential because I think we have a tremendous team, both on and off field.

“In every opportunity I’ve had to meet with someone from this Club has been very impressive and I’m really looking forward to contributing to the great momentum this Club has.”
