Season in short:

Key defensive prospect Zaine Cordy made big waves in his first season at the Club.

Recruited under the father-son rule in last year’s draft, Cordy came to the Bulldogs with a rich family history, as the son of former player Brian, and brother of ruckman Ayce.

Cordy suffered setbacks at the start of the year, with a shoulder reconstruction and a minor thumb injury, and spent much of the year playing across the back-line for Footscray.

Despite his slight physique, Cordy impressed with his ferocity at the contest and ability to read the play.

He earned his AFL debut in round 22 against North Melbourne, and starting as the substitute, he made an impressive game-saving tackle late in the game.

Stat that mattered:

Cordy’s first match for the Club, in round 5 of the VFL season saw his best output for the year, picking up 20 disposals and seven marks.

What they said:

“I’ve definitely matured over the last 12 months, it was a pretty tough start. Especially with the two injuries but I thought getting a game at the end of the year was pretty exciting and really showed how far I’d come.” – Zaine Cordy, September 2015

“He’s just showed some real signs that he’s dour, and he’s ruthless in defence. He’s just got that real appetite to compete, when he sees the footy in the air he’ll spoil with real intent and that’s something that I haven’t seen a young defender do in a long time which is a great sign. Once he gets confidence in his body and starts to build an AFL physique, he’ll be a welcome addition to our defence.” – Rohan Smith (Western Bulldogs Assistant Coach), September 2015
