Assistant coach Joel Corey says the focus on increasing versatility across the ground will remain a priority heading into season 2016.

Spending time with the playing group on Friday, coaching the specifics of stoppage craft, the former premiership player highlighted the importance of a whole team approach.

“We get a few blokes go through there (the midfield) so every now and then you see a defender pop up in the stoppage so while they don’t have to know everything, they need to know enough to actually handle themselves in situations.”

Corey said that it was important the young players coming into the side were also able to learn off their experienced teammates, and not just the coaching group.

“Today was just a little craft session, defenders and the experienced backs teaching the younger boys about different little position and craft stuff.”

Friday’s session was held under sticky conditions, with the temperature hitting the mid-30s on the Sunshine Coast.

Corey said the time away in new and challenging conditions, would help bring the group together as the NAB Challenge approaches.

“It’s humid today, it’s probably in the mid-30s and triple the humidity that it was yesterday, just walking out the front door you start to sweat.

“It’s good for them to come away and have a good training block, especially in the heat and the conditions actually change the dynamics of it all.

“You’ve got that element of bonding, they’re together for 10 days and we’re at the early stages now but they get to hang out together and develop relationships.”
