For Ellie Blackburn, the Western Bulldogs' inaugural AFL Women's season ended on wonderful note, the midfielder splitting the big sticks with a long bomb as the siren sounded to finish the Bulldogs match against GWS and draw a curtain on a season full of moments to be cherished.

Blackburn's goal capped off a 32-point win over the Giants, the Bulldogs' second of the season after they had won the opening match against Fremantle by exactly the same margin.

That first-round match is a highlight that will live long in Blackburn's memory.

"Round 1 was a pretty special moment for us. Having the first game at Whitten Oval and winning in front of a massive crowd with the momentum that we had in that game was pretty unreal and something that I think a lot of us girls will cherish for the rest of our lives."

While the five matches after that Round 1 win were frustrating for the Bulldogs, each a narrow loss in which short lapses cost the side, Blackburn was pleased she and her teammates were able to close out the season with a strong performance, particularly after half time, against the Giants.

"I think it's really positive for our group and for the football club to finish on a high.  We had 22 contributors, especially in that second half so it was really positive for us moving forward."

When asked what the Bulldogs would be looking to build on as a group in the lead-up to next season, Blackburn said creating a culture which would attract players and keep them coming back was important.

"I think it's making a culture and a club where girls want to come back and play here in years to come. I think it's building on that kind of vibe and that camaraderie within the group, and building on good football moving forward."

Blackburn kicked six goals to finish eighth on the AFLW goal-kicking table in a fine season that saw her average 14 kicks, five handballs and two marks per game.
