Five weeks into the season and the Bulldogs are 4-1.

On paper, it's good return from the opening rounds, but as they did against Brisbane on Saturday, the Dogs continue to find themselves in positions that they've had to fight their way out of.

It's been a feature of the Dogs' season to date going back to the JLT Series win over the Gold Coast, where they've needed to dig deep and shift up a gear after falling behind early.

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said after the game he couldn't help but admire the fight in his side, but he'd prefer they didn't find themselves in the positions they have in the first instance.

"Their self-belief and team belief is right there in the right part of the chart, and to turn it around by 60-odd points again is a great effort, but we don't want to be there, he said.

"We want to take control of games, and we're not doing that."

"[But] you can only continue to give them credit for winning those games when we're right on the ropes...but we fight our way out of it, and that shows a lot of grit and integrity."

The Dogs' turned a 37-point second quarter deficit to a 32-point victory on the back of a 12 goal to two second half, and a particularly powerful eight goal final term display.

Beveridge said it showed what his side is capable of when it all clicks, and right on time, as they prepare to travel north to reacquaint themselves with the Greater Western Sydney Giants on Friday night.
