Another week, and another come from behind Western Bulldogs win on Saturday night before 46,387 fans at Etihad Stadium.

The Dogs trailed by 32 points early in the second term but were able to reel the Tigers in to eventually run away five point victors to move to five wins, two losses on the season with a trip to Perth looming.

Lachie Hunter, speaking to westernbulldogs.com.au post-match, said that the Dogs numbers through the midfield gives them confidence that they could finish the game strong.

“It’s probably something we’ve done all year,” Hunter said.

“We’ll back our legs in the last quarter because most other teams have three or four who spend most of the time in there.”

According to Champion Data, the Bulldogs have nine players that have spent over 55% of their time in the midfield tin 2017, with names like Caleb Daniel, Josh Dunkley and Stewart Crameri, also able to push into the middle when required.

With that versatility comes a confidence that they can overrun any side when the game gets tight and the Dogs have made a habit of coming come with a wet sail in 2017, winning six out of seven third quarters, setting up multiple close run finishes.

However, Bulldogs forward Clay Smith, who had a big say in the final outcome kicking two of his four goals in the frantic final term, told Channel 7 post-match it was ‘probably a bit too close’ in the end.

“We let them get a good start,” Smith said.

“Once they get their tails up they go all right. We just had to peg our way back. We knew it would take pretty much the whole game to do that.

“Credit to the boys. We got ourselves within striking distance and three-quarter time. We came home strong.”

The Bulldogs face the West Coast Eagles in Perth on Friday night.
