It happens to all of us at one time or another, even 321-game AFL/VFL legends.

Your partner comes across tickets to a concert that you’d rather not go to, but you end up going because, well, that’s what we do.

And that’s exactly what looks to have happened to Bulldogs legend Doug Hawkins this morning after wife Raelene won tickets to see former One Directioner Harry Styles when his world tour stops by Melbourne later this year.

Raelene was selected as a random winner by NOVA 100’s Chrissie, Sam and Browny, and when Mrs. Hawkins revealed she was footy royalty things took a turn.

“You’ve made an old lady very happy. That’s amazing.” Raelene told the hosts.

“Hey Browny, its Doug’s wife here, Hawkins. Guess what? I’m going to drag him along.

“I love him (Styles), you know what — he should be Mick Jagger in a movie, he’s just gorgeous. He (Dougie) will not believe this.”

This led co-host Jonathan Brown getting a none-too-pleased Doug on the line to inform him he best dig out his dancing shoes, but Hawkins was adamant that the shoes wouldn’t be required.

“I’m not going to see Harry,” he said.

“You are coming,” Raelene said on the three-way call.

“I had to listen to Creedence Clearwater, you can come and listen to Harry.”

While Hawkins was known for his slick footwork on the field, it was going to take some of his best work to get out of this one, it seems..

“He was with who? I’ve never heard of them.

“I used to kick in one direction. I can’t be doing this ... this is a lot of manure.”
