18-year-old Lewis Young scraped into draft eligibility by a mere 11 days last November, but on Sunday afternoon will be make his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs against Carlton at the MCG.

Young will be the 999th player capped since the Club entered the VFL competition in 1925.  

The former basketballer, he played at under-16 State level, was taken with the Dogs’ third pick (49th overall) in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft out of South Australia, impressing scouts with his speed and agility, and his good, reliable hands.

Young has played 12 games this season for Footscray in the VFL, averaging 13 disposals and five marks a contest predominantly across half back, with his work rate a standout.

He had 24 disposals, 11 marks and five rebound 50s in the Bulldogs’ 49-point win over Sandringham on the weekend.
