Hobsons Bay City Council Sons of the West participants were met by Bulldogs legend, Doug Hawkins last week for the ‘Man vs. Food’ cooking master class at Newport Community Hub.

Together with Woolworths, the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation hosted an interactive session whereby participants could put their nutritional knowledge to practice and create quick and healthy meals in replace of those with low nutritional value.

As an avid supporter of Sons of the West since its inception in 2014, Hawkins expressed his passion for the men’s health program.

“Men's health is so important,” the 321-game men's health ambassador said.

“It's critical (that) blokes eat correctly and look after themselves because life is very, very short”.

With a focus placed on food preparation skills, food safety, and healthy meal choices, participants were encouraged to take control of their physical health while understanding the importance of a balanced diet.

As always, the session was followed by the weekly physical activity session, with men broken up into separate groups based on their fitness levels.
