2017 marked the end of an era for Matthew Boyd and the Club. The 35-year-old announced that he would retire at the end of the season after 292 games, three All-Australian nods, three club best and fairests and a flag.

Boyd spent time in the VFL during the season, but finished on a high in his final AFL match against Hawthorn. He ended the night with 33 possessions in what was a fitting finale.

The stat that mattered:

In his last AFL game, Matthew Boyd collected 33 disposals and kicked a goal as he farewelled the red, white and blue faithful for one last time.
