Ed Richards says wearing the red, white & blue for first time is a moment he'll never forget.

Ed Richards and his teammates may not have come away with a win from the AFLX tournament in Sydney this weekend, but Richards himself will bring something home far more important.

Taken with the Bulldogs’ 16th pick in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft in November, and with almost a full AFL pre-season under his belt, the 18-year-old wore the red, white and blue for the first time on Saturday, an experience he won’t soon forget.

“It’s a little surreal pulling on the jumper and running out with Red (Jack Redpath) as captain,” Richards told westernbulldogs.com.au.

“[It’s} something I’ll cherish for the rest of my life, the first time that I wore the red, white and blue.”

The Dogs didn’t get a win in the Harbour city, going down to Sydney and Gold Coast, but Richards said the trip was an invaluable experience for some of the Club’s younger brigade.

He’s now been at the Club three months and says he’s settled in well, but has his eyes are now firmly on the upcoming season.

“The boys have been great helping the first year boys out and I’m just really looking forward to getting into the season now that pre-season is pretty much over.”

The Dogs now look to the JLT Community Series which kicks off on March 3 at Mars Stadium in Ballarat against the Hawks.
