The Western Bulldogs have opened the 2018 season with two straight losses after going down by 51 points to the West Coast Eagles at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

An even first term made way for an Eagles onslaught, as the visitors slammed on nine unanswered goals in an hour of footy that effectively ending the contest.

Turnovers where the Dogs worst enemy, while the Eagles were clean and efficient all across the ground, with Jack Darling proving a more than ample replacement for injured spearhead Josh Kennedy, taking 11 marks and adding four goals.

Back to back goals from Billy Gowers and Lachie Hunter showed some spark midway through the fourth quarter but it wasn’t to be, and the Dogs now have seven days before they front the Bombers at Etihad Stadium.

Jack Macrae (Three goals, 31 possessions) and Lachie Hunter (26 disposals, nine marks) and Toby McLean (31 possessions, five tackles) were standouts, while Ed Richards had some moments in his debut AFL game.
