It became one of the iconic moments of the Bulldogs’ 2016 Grand Final triumph and sparked a social media frenzy in the hours after when video began to circulate of Tom Liberatore answering a random fan question after the siren.

It’s been almost two years now but we finally have an answer to what was going through his mind when he announced that he’d made ‘a  hundred’, and it’s probably not what you think.

Liberatore was the latest guest on the Freedom in a Cage podcast and talked to co-hosts Adi Brown and Bob Murphy about topics ranging from how his knee rehabilitation is going, to how he goes as a spectator (not well), to which era he would have liked to play in.

Regarding his impromptu interview that October day, he said there were a couple of things going through his mind.

“Most practically, because the question was so stupid and mundane.  He said, 'what did you do today?',” he explained.

“But then the more deep theory was because I watched Colin Miller play cricket when I was growing up.  I used to always go to Boxing Day with Dad every year, so I think that had something to do with it.”

So there you have it.  Mystery solved.
