Easton Wood has given an insight into his approach to leadership at the Western Bulldogs, basing his approach on focusing on each individuals strength.

Currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, Wood became captain of the Bulldogs at the start of the 2018 season.

Speaking as part of the just released AFLPA’s ‘Captain’s Call’ podcast, Wood said the main role of the leadership group was to maintain a balanced outlook on and off the field.

“With our group, guys bring really different strengths, which is what I think is a great thing about our club.

“The (leadership) group’s focus is that they’re the custodians of the entire team and they’re trying to look after and keep an eye on all of the sheep in the flock.

“(We) make sure if anyone is showing any flags that need help, then we help them, and, if anyone is showing signs of growth that we reward that growth."

A key to strong leadership, according to Wood, is togetherness and unity.

“We need to keep that cohesion, keep guys in tight and keep us moving forward.”
