Developing key forward Josh Schache has credited his teammates, especially fellow big man Tom Boyd, with helping him settle into his new home at the Dogs this season.

The 20-year-old crossed from Brisbane in last year’s trade period after 25 games in two years.

After nine goals in three games in the VFL Schache forced his way into the senior side, having played the last three games, showing promising signs in each playing principally as a key forward and pinch hitting in the ruck.

Schache said Boyd in particular had been a valuable support on-field.

“He’s able to give me little insights out on the ground that I probably don’t see personally, which is really good, so he’s able to help me out on the ground, he told AFL.com.au

“Along with the other boys out there, the leaders have been really good this year, especially the other boys down there in the forward line.”

With the Dogs going into this week’s clash with North Melbourne with a 4-8 record, the Seymour product said there is still plenty to gain from the final ten weeks of the season.

“I suppose it hasn’t really gone to plan so far this year with what we wanted to achieve but there’s still the second half of the year, and we really want to hone in on and be really competitive against the teams we play, he said.

“We’re doing that out on the training track trying to improve every week.”
