Despite some tense moments, and a goalless final term, the Western Bulldogs have held-off a spirited Casey Demons to secure their second win of the VFLW season on Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields.

While the Bulldogs led from start to finish, the Demons threatened late in the contest on the back of a flying goal from Aliesha Newman, helping the home side close the margin to less than a kick at the halfway mark of the final term.

The Demons continued to press, holding the territory advantage for much of the final term, as Eden Zanker launched another late shot on goal with just minutes to go, but that slid wide of the mark.

Three points would be the final margin, as a dour defensive effort from the Bulldogs in the final term earned them back-to-back wins, 4.7 (31) to 4.4 (28).

Kirsten McLeod kicked two goals for the victors, and was a dangerous presence inside 50m, while Brooke Lochland and Hayley Wildes scored the visitors other two majors.

Casey were consistent in their work throughout the contest, scoring goals in each quarter, while the Bulldogs goals came in bursts at the start of the first and third terms.

Missed opportunities early saw Casey keep within striking distance, as the Bulldogs kicked 2.4 from their first quarter forays inside 50m.

Both teams struggled to get shots on goal in the second term, with the Demons goal in the dying minutes of the second term the only goal for the quarter, and seeing the two teams enter the main break separated by just three points.

Brooke Lochland wasted little time hitting the scoreboard in the third quarter, converting a set shot within the opening minutes. Kirsten McLeod chipped in for her second goal of the contest just moments later, converting an opportunistic snap from the goal-square after working her opponent off a bouncing ball running back towards goal.

The Demons goaled on the three-quarter time siren to reduce the margin to nine points, but try as they might in the last quarter, they ultimately wouldn’t be able to overhaul the Dogs’ lead.

Next Sunday the Bulldogs will head to Ballarat’s Mars Stadium to host Geelong on Sunday 1 July, with the first bounce at 2pm
