The Western Bulldogs have had just two players who have played every game this season, but coach Luke Beveridge says he has been heartened by the resolve of the group, who have seen opportunity through adversity.

Only Jason Johannisen and Toby McLean have played every game in 2018, with many of the Dogs’ key personnel sidelined, at times, through injury.

“At different times we seem like we might just be getting it together and then it shifts because we might lose a member of a certain line or a couple of members of the midfield,” Beveridge told 3AW on Thursday.

“We’re replacing them with 18 or 19-year-olds who are just trying to cut their teeth and sometimes it’s difficult to expect too much. (But) there’s been some promising signs in recent times and even the way we want to play is coming out a little bit more, the past couple of weeks. It’s been encouraging.”

Beveridge has blooded five players this season, with defenders Ed Richards (19 games), Billy Gowers (18 games) and Aaron Naughton (16 games) three examples of players benefiting from AFL level experience in their first season at the Kennel.

“Those lads who came in as our new draftees, they have been resilient and they’ve done really well.

“It can be quite taxing (the first season in the system) and they’ve been able to make it through.

“Hopefully we can get them through the next couple of rounds.”

The Dogs will take on Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
