The Western Bulldogs Community Foundation’s Daughters of the West women’s health program is underway for its second year running.

Targeting common health concerns recognised in women in Melbourne’s west, Daughters of the West aims to provide a comfortable environment whereby women can reach an optimal level of health, while socialising with likeminded women.

Western Bulldogs player and Daughters of the West ambassador Libby Birch said that she has thoroughly enjoyed working alongside the Foundation and Daughters of the West participants.

“I have loved the opportunity to meet some incredible women of all ages and backgrounds who are taking the steps to learn about themselves and how to live a happier, heathier life,” said Birch.

“The team orientated atmosphere of the program makes everyone feel at home and it is so fantastic to see so many smiles at every session.”

Alongside Birch, Western Bulldogs AFLW players Ellie Blackburn and Lauren Spark have made their way across Victoria’s western region this year, visiting Daughters of the West sessions in Ballarat, Wyndham, Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton and Maryborough.

A Maribyrnong local, Birch said that her motivations to become an ambassador for the program stemmed from her interest in community engagement.

“I’m extremely proud to be a part of a club that invests so much care and genuine support into our community.

“It’s not just about what happens on the field, it’s about how we can work together to help and support one another to make the most of our situations, no matter where we come from or who we are.”
