Right place, wrong time for Bulldog rookie

'When my name was called at the draft, I was...' The Bulldogs draftees speak about their draft day experiences, and how they reacted to their name being called by the Western Bulldogs.

Newly arrived Western Bulldogs draftee Lachie Young was watching Netflix when his name was read out at pick six in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

Young, who was unaware the rookie draft had been brought forward by an hour, could hardly believe his eyes when a relative made him aware that he was drafted to the Bulldogs.

“We were actually sitting on the couch at home watching Netflix, trying to get time to go by,” Young told westernbulldogs.com.au.

“The rookie draft wasn’t meant to be on until six thirty, and at about five thirty a message came through from my cousin, saying congratulations.

“I was just like, I didn’t get drafted.  It’s not for another hour, the rookie draft.

“She sent me a screen shot which said, pick six, Western Bulldogs.  It was pretty surreal.

“We all jumped off the couch and got really excited.  I was not expecting it.”
