Selwood wins Rd 15 Rising Star

Ahead of his first clash with his twin brother Adam in an AFL match, Brisbane's Troy Selwood has won the Round 15 nomination for the 2005 NAB AFL Rising Star Medal.

The 21-year-old is in his third season with the Lions, but did not make his debut for the club until the season-opener against St Kilda at the Gabba.

He has played 13 of the club's 15 matches this year and during the club's impressive five-match winning streak, has performed stopping roles on Fremantle's Paul Hasleby, gun Carlton midfielder Nick Stevens, Geelong ace Jimmy Bartel, Melbourne prime mover Travis Johnstone, and Collingwood’s Shane O’Bree.

O'Bree had had averaged 24 touches the previous five weeks, but was kept to just 11 on Saturday while Selwood racked up 18 himself.

The 21 year old was thew 19th selection overall at the 2002 NAB AFL Draft and joined the club he had supported all his life. After a development season in 2003, he was restricted by a back injury in 2004.

He joins Jed Adcock and Justin Sherman as Lions to receive Rising Star nominations.

Adam Selwood was picked by West Coast with the 53rd selection overall and has played 17 games (12 this year) with the Eagles.
