The honest defender has performed admirably against a number of the opposition’s key powerhouses when given the opportunity at senior level. After a late start to his AFL career Markovic is hitting his stride and becoming more confident in his abilities. After spending a year on Hawthorn’s rookie list, the 24 year old was given another opportunity through the 2009 AFL National Draft (pick 63 overall). 

Lukas Markovic added another nine games to his career tally this season although an ongoing hamstring complaint restricted his game time. Markovic achieved a number of statistical highs throughout the course of the year including a career high nine marks, 16 disposals and 12 one percenters. He was the equal highest rated player at the Club in average one percenters and placed sixth in disposal efficiency at the Bulldogs.
