Standing at 192cm tall, Jarrad Grant is an athletic forward who uses his height and run to create a difficult match up for opposition teams. With experience at both ends of the ground and across the wing, the Grant has looked most damaging deep towards goals and continues to ply his trade in that area. Grant was a highly-touted recruit when he was drafted to the Bulldogs with their first round selection in 2007 (pick five overall). Grant was a member of the Footscray Bulldogs VFL premiership side in 2014.

Season by Season

Season in short:

An injury cruelled pre-season set the tone for what would be a frustrating year for the 25 year-old.

After an eye-catching finish to the 2013 season where the versatile forward’s form mirrored that of the team, Grant was denied the chance to continue where he left off.

Landing awkwardly from a marking contest during a pre-season training drill in January, an ensuing foot injury would see Grant miss the first half of the home and away season.

After a month in the VFL, Grant earned his place in the senior side for the Round 12 match against Brisbane, before backing up for consecutive matches against Collingwood and Port Adelaide.

Grant was influential in the Dogs’ round 13 win over Collingwood, collecting a season-best 20 disposals and bagging an important last quarter goal.

A head clash and broken nose against the Power, meant Grant spent another stint on the sideline, returning only to the senior fold once again in round 21 against North Melbourne.

Grant finished the season in the VFL, and was a part of Footscray’s victorious VFL Grand Final side, collecting 20 disposals, five marks, five tackles and a goal in the win.

The stat that mattered

Grant’s return of just four matches was his lowest games tally in six years, since his debut season in 2009. A hapless run of injury had an undeniable impact, something that the 2007 first round draft pick will be hoping for more luck with in 2015.

What they said

“It’s been a little bit of a frustrating year…” – Jarrad Grant

Season in short

After an extended stint in the VFL to open his 2013 campaign, Grant forced his way back in to the Bulldogs’ senior line up in Round 16. His inclusion immediately paid dividends for the team. Playing all eight remaining games, the 24-year-oldattacked the ball fearlessly and was rewarded, kicking 13 goals and averaging six marks per game. A team-lifting performance against Carlton in Round 20 yielded 24 disposals and four goals.

What they said:

“He's quite exhilarating to watch. We're just really happy for Granty. The number one thing, the way he's playing is a by-product of him growing up and accepting that when he's out on the field in a Western Bulldogs' jumper, you play a certain way. It's just terrific to see how hard he's attacking the ball and believing in himself."

-       Western Bulldogs Senior Coach Brendan McCartney (Round 20, 2013)

The stat that mattered

On average, Grant over four scoreboard influences (goals, behind or goal assist) in each game, combining his goals (1.6 per match), behinds (1.0) and score assists (1.5) - more than Daniel Giansiracusa (4.0) and Tom Campbell (3.7).

Grant has had a constructive season in 2012, adding a new contested element to his game style and finding a tailor made weights program that works with his body shape. Kicking 12 goals in 13 games, he found himself playing across all areas of the ground in a more team-oriented role. The base that he set in 2012 should put him in good stead for a big season next year.

Season by Season

Playing 16 games for 16 goals in 2011, the raw and exciting forward continues to develop as a key lead-up forward. He registered a career-high seven marks against Fremantle in round 24 and six tackles against Melbourne in round 15. Will get more opportunities this year in a new-look forward line.
