The strongly built 194cm defender emerged throughout the year from an excellent stopper, to a genuine intercept marking threat.

Was widely tipped to be taken higher up the draft with an exceptional year for the Dandenong Stingrays culminating in an All Australian selection.

Excellent in one on one contest and good decision by foot, Collins has a demonstrated ability to handle opposition power forwards.

Collins made his senior debut against the GWS Giants in round nine of the 2016 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

Season By Season

Season in short

Injuries delayed the beginning of second-year tall Kieran Collins’ 2017, although the 99kg defender recovered to finish the season strong in the VFL.

Collins, who will turn 20 in December, has averaged 13 disposals, four marks and two tackles per game in 19 games for Footscray this season.

His standout game came in round 14 against the Coburg at VU Whitten Oval where he gathered 23 disposals.

Stat that mattered:

He signed a one year contract extension in June.

What they said:

“[My pre-season] was interrupted a little bit but as the season went on I started playing some good footy and it didn’t really affect me that much towards the end.

“To get a full pre-season will allow me to prolong my form and have a full year of good football.

“(Re-signing) gave me a lot of confidence. It just gives you that self-belief that the club wants you to stick around, that they trust you and that you’re playing the role they want you to.”

- Kieran Collins, September 2017

Season By Season

Season in short

A promising debut season from the strongly built former Dandenong Stingray.

A shoulder injury ended his season in July but showed enough to suggest he could be a long term prospect in a key defensive post.

Played 11 games at VFL level for Footscray where he averaged 16 disposals, five marks and three tackles, and made his senior debut in round nine against Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium.

Still only 18-years-old, will only get better with more time in the system.

The stat that mattered

Averaged three rebound 50s per contest at VFL level.

What they said

“Just to be a part of it and play my first game is unreal and being a part of the success in my first year at the Club is pretty awesome.

“A key focus for me will be endurance.  Just to look to boost that so it allows me to run out the games better and keep up with the key forwards these days who are running quite well and have good tanks.

“Obviously skills, looking to improve those and make sure I can use the ball well coming out of defence and find a target.”
