Former GWS Giant Sam Darley will be a handy acquisition for the Bulldogs, after spending three years in Sydney. The elite user of the ball played predominantly as an outside midfielder throughout his junior career but has developed more of a hardened edge in the AFL system.

Season in short:

After joining the Bulldogs list at the end of 2013, Darley impressed in his first year at the Club.

Although only playing five games in the senior side, he impressed with his approach on the ball and ability to find a balance between defence and attack.

Darley’s first goal in Bulldogs colours came against St Kilda in round 20, where he also picked up 17 disposals, at 88 per cent efficiency – no doubt his best game for the year.

Darley also strung good performances together in the VFL, pressing for AFL selection on a number of occasions, including a run of games in the middle of the year where he picked up 17, 21 and 26 disposals in three games.

The stat that mattered:

Ranked 15th in AFL for rebound 50s per game

What they said:

“In 14 games of footy it was my first AFL win, so I know when that siren went I went straight up to Dale Morris and, mate, I can’t describe the feeling I had at that time.

“It’s one that I’m not just proud of for myself but for the group as well – we worked really hard to get that win.” – Darley following his first game for the Bulldogs in the round 15 win against Melbourne.
