The son of former Collingwood star Billy Picken, he was the persistence story of the year for the Bulldogs, earning promotion from the rookie list to play 23 games and add a harder defensive edge to the midfield. After being joint winner of the best and fairest at VFL club Williamstown in 2008, he played mainly as a lockdown midfielder with the Dogs. Second at the club for tackles, he is adept at winning the hard ball and capable of kicking a long goal.
