Last week the Western Bulldogs proudly hosted a lunch to celebrate the work of the Breast Cancer Network of Australia (BCNA) ahead of the Field of Women LIVE event which the Club will be part of prior to the Round 7 clash against Melbourne.
The event will see 14,000 women and men in pink and a 100 in blue take to the field of the MCG to form the trademark ‘pink lady’. The aim of the event is to highlight the growing number of breast cancer diagnosis’ and build awareness and support for the network and the numbers reflect the current statistics, each year approximately 14,000 women are diagnosed with Breast Cancer and 100 men across Australia.
During the celebratory lunch held in the Whitten Oval’s own boardroom, Club President David Smorgon OAM announced that the Club was thrilled to be part of the event and eagerly “jumped on board to be part of it”.
BCNA founder and CEO Lyn Swinburne, a breast cancer survivor herself, was also in attendance. David Smorgon described Lyn as a “true hero” and joked that the only medal she hasn’t been awarded is a Brownlow medal, a feat Lyn laughed she may not achieve.
Despite the jovial conversation guests were well aware of the seriousness of the topic at hand, which was highlighted by the touching footage of the last Field of Women event which was held at the MCG five years ago.
