THE WESTERN Bulldogs have confirmed that they will select young gun Ayce Cordy regardless of whether another club makes a play for his services in next Monday's father/son bidding.
Club football general manager James Fantasia said the Dogs were set to pounce on Cordy with either its first, second or third selection in the November NAB AFL Draft. Cordy is the son of former Bulldog Brian, who played 124 matches for the club from 1981-88.
"The paperwork has been lodged and that was lodged a few weeks ago and now we've got to wait until Monday for the pre-father/son bidding," Fantasia told afl.com.au.
"Realistically we are expecting clubs to bid on Ayce and our first three picks are 14, 32 and 48, so we're expecting him to go with one of those picks. But Monday will come around and we'll get it all done and dusted.
"No matter what happens, we'll be taking him as a father/son [selection] and we're delighted about it."
Looking ahead to next week's exchange period, Fantasia said the club was still hopeful of retaining midfielder Farren Ray, although the Dogs were also prepared to trade on the Western Australian if the right deal were presented.
"[Ray's] indicated he's interested in pursuing his career [elsewhere]. Farren's a required player, but he's out of contract," Fantasia said.
"We'd like to keep him, but at the end of the day we need to be realistic and see what's on offer. If it's a win/win, then we'll look at those issues. Otherwise, we'll look to keep him. And we'll look for key position-type players."
Meanwhile, Fantasia said the club would certainly look at securing Sydney Swans forward Barry Hall if the harbour city team decided to part ways with him.
"Barry Hall is a contracted player and that's an issue that Sydney need to work through – whether he's a player on the market or not. If he is, then certainly you'd talk to him," Fantasia said.
"And like any trade, whether it's Barry Hall or not, there is always a price issue that you've got to take into consideration – financial or cost to your club."
