Beveridge: We’re really enthusiastic about the outcome

Western Bulldogs senior coach Luke Beveridge has lauded his side for their performance against a formidable Gold Coast Suns outfit on Saturday afternoon.

Western Bulldogs senior coach Luke Beveridge has lauded his side for their performance against a formidable Gold Coast Suns outfit on Saturday afternoon.

Registering back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a 19-point victory at Mars Stadium, Beveridge said there was a lot to like.

“The Suns were formidable as an opponent - they’ve taken a couple of impressive scalps in Sydney and Fremantle over the previous two weeks,” he told media post-match.

“We came up against a ruckman in Jarrod Witts who is absolutely dominating the competition, and we had a lot of change through our front end and back end. For our boys and everyone supporting them, to have a win today was super.

“For our lads to hold their nerve and continue to come again - I think at the end we definitely stabilised. It was encouraging. We’re really enthusiastic about the day and obviously the outcome.

“We feel (the support), we hear it and we see the red, white and blue in the crowd. To kick 106 points with a real fight on our hands was also encouraging.”

The win gives the Bulldogs a 5-5 win-loss ratio, retaining ninth position on the ladder after 10 rounds with upcoming games against West Coast and Geelong before their round 13 bye.

Beveridge said while he hopes they can build some momentum over the next fortnight, there is no certainty.

“Even now, our good has been alright – but in the scheme of the next part of the year and even the next (games), you can never be too sure,” he said.

“Last time we were down here we dropped a game by a point, and all those small margins separate the ones who are going to be at the top.

“Hopefully we can establish ourselves as a team that can string a few more (wins) together as we go on.”
