Expect the Bulldogs to keep consolidating their new look game style under Luke Beveridge this Saturday in Ballarat, as the Club face-off with Melbourne in their second NAB Challenge fixture.

After a 22-point victory over Richmond in their opening NAB Challenge match, Dogs’ big man Ayce Cordy says the messaging from the coaches has been consistent in the build-up to the weekend’s practice match.

“I think there was a lot of positive signs coming out of the first round,” Cordy told Crocmedia’s SportsDay.

“We didn’t go back to the drawing board or anything like that after the game against Richmond or the intra club.

“(Luke) has still been reinforcing the same messages.”

After dominating possession and opportunities in front of goals, Cordy said there is still polish to be added.

“We had a lot of the footy (against Richmond), and it was difficult to score at times.

“We were getting a lot of inside 50s for little result, which is something we’ve got to work on, we’ve got to make our inside 50s more potent, but we definitely controlled the majority of the game against Richmond.”

After a friendly hit-out in last weekend’s intra club match, Cordy will be hoping to be a part of the Bulldogs squad to face Melbourne on Saturday at Eureka Stadium.

The opportunity to go no-holds-barred against an opposition is something the playing group has been building towards all preseason.

“Whilst it doesn’t have the same fire and flare as an opposition game, there’s still a bit in it,” Cordy said.

“The whole idea of playing competitively and looking after your teammates is sometimes a fine line to walk,

“These days you do enough match practice in training, that you’ve done it all before in the preseason.”

The Western Bulldogs play Melbourne at Eureka Stadium, Ballarat on Saturday (14 March, 2015) at 4:10pm, with the match to be live streamed on westernbulldogs.com.au.
