Injuries delayed the beginning of second-year tall Kieran Collins’ 2017, although the 99kg defender recovered to finish the season strong in the VFL.

Collins, who will turn 20 in December, has averaged 13 disposals, four marks and two tackles per game in 19 games for Footscray this season.

His standout game came in round 14 against the Coburg at VU Whitten Oval where he gathered 23 disposals.

Stat that mattered:

He signed a one year contract extension in June.

What they said:

“[My pre-season] was interrupted a little bit but as the season went on I started playing some good footy and it didn’t really affect me that much towards the end.

“To get a full pre-season will allow me to prolong my form and have a full year of good football.

“(Re-signing) gave me a lot of confidence. It just gives you that self-belief that the club wants you to stick around, that they trust you and that you’re playing the role they want you to.”
