As hamstring injuries go, Western Bulldogs captain Easton Wood says the one keeping him out of this weekend’s game in Ballarat is ‘the better one to do.’

Wood is expected to miss the next two to three weeks as the Club takes a cautious approach, but Wood explained to SEN on Friday why his current injury differs from ones he suffered in the past.

“This particular one I did felt a bit different to the other ones I’ve done,” he told SEN Mornings.

“Normally it feels like a really sharp grab, almost like you get stabbed with a needle. It’s not super painful, but you can feel that really sharp sting.

“The hamstring muscle I did in this case is called semimembranosus and it’s the lower part of the hamstring, closer to the knee. This is more of a fatigue muscle.

"In terms of risk, this is the better one to do."

Wood was able to play out the game against Carlton on Friday night, and it was only after scans on Saturday that it was revealed he had a minor strain.

But the 131-game veteran says he doesn’t expect to miss much football because of it.

“As I’ve had a bit of history with this kind of thing, the cautious approach is the one to take,” he said.

“I’ll be out for two-to-three weeks I think.”
