According to Marcus Bontempelli, Dale Morris is such a good bloke, that he’s ‘the bloke you compare the good blokes to.”

But that doesn’t seemed to have helped Morris with the umpires over his 249 game journey who have awarded the warrior Dog with just the solitary Brownlow vote over 13 seasons of AFL football.  One.

Speaking to RSN Breakfast on Tuesday morning, Morris said that’s not even the worst part.

“I’ve been to the Brownlow four times and had to sit through it three times and not hear my name called out once, so I was that guy at the Brownlow,” he laughed.

“I would sit there at Crown and think, ‘I think I had a good game that game’, and nothing.”

But ever positive, Morris said he was grateful to get one at all.

“You can look at it the other way, that I’m very lucky to get one,” he said. “I’m rapt to just have the one.”

The game in question was in round 3, 2008 when Morris caught the umpires’ eye. The Dogs faced St.Kilda under lights at Etihad Stadium on a Friday night in April, when the Saints skipped out to an authoritative 37-point lead at the first change.

The Dogs weren’t done, however and chased them down, eventually turning the tables and emerging 38-point winners after a 13-goal second half.

Ryan Griffen (25 disposals, three goals) and Adam Cooney (28 disposals, two goals) were awarded three and two votes respectively, and Morris, with 11 touches, two tackles and 10 one percenters was awarded the one.

Unless they thought he was Matthew Boyd... it wouldn't be the first time.
