Ten Facts: Get to know Sam Lloyd

Get to know the Bulldogs’ newest recruit, Sam Lloyd, who was traded to the Club in exchange for a fourth-round pick.

1. Lloyd is a Deniliquin export, having grown up on a farm in the Riverina region of New South Wales.

2. The 28-year-old is a qualified builder.  He has studied courses in construction management and carpentry.

3. Lloyd played in the VFL for Frankston before being given an opportunity at the senior level – he was drafted to Richmond with pick 66 in the 2013 National Draft.

4. He was awarded the Norm Goss Memorial Medal for best afield for Richmond in the 2017 VFL Grand Final.  He was the first player from a losing team to win the medal in the 35-year-history of the award.

5. Lloyd co-started a fundraiser Mood Swing after losing close friend, Kurt, to suicide.  Mood Swing aims to encourage community connectedness, start conversations about mental illness and wellbeing and raise funds for organisations within the mental health space.

6. Lloyd famously kicked a clutch goal after the siren to defeat Sydney at the MCG in Round 8, 2016.

7. He accompanied Richmond teammate Dustin Martin to the 2017 Brownlow Medal, when Dusty took home ‘Charlie’.

8. He lived with Tigers teammate David Astbury for three years.

9. Lloyd plays competitive lawn bowls at the Brunswick Bowling Club with Tigers Jacob Townsend, Toby Nankervis and Anthony Miles.

10. He is currently holidaying in Peru, having just completed a hike to the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu.
