The AFL has confirmed the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft will be held at the Melbourne Showgrounds on Tuesday 22nd October.

The Western Bulldogs will head to the draft in a strong position, currently holding national picks 1, 6, 8, 9, 47, 62 and 90.

The Bulldogs also signed two rookie players ahead of the draft, adding Irish recruit Katy Herron and first American AFLW player, Dani Marshall to the list. Rookies must not have played Australian Football in three years prior to May 1, 2019 or have been involved in a high-performance AFLW program. The Rookie signing period closed on Friday, August 30.

BULLDOGS SIGN TWO INTERNATIONAL ROOKIES

All 14 teams will take part in this year’s draft, including expansion sides Richmond, St Kilda, West Coast and the Gold Coast Suns who had until Friday, August 30 to sign up to seven players from their Academy who were undrafted in 2019.

The NAB AFLW Draft is state based. Players nominating for the Draft must elect which state they wish to play, with some Clubs also having a specific region within their state to develop talent.
The nomination period for the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft opened on Monday, September 2.
