Marcus Bontempelli

It was a terrific year to be a Bulldog, particularly for Marcus Bontempelli.

Capping off an outstanding 2016 year, then 20-year-old Bontempelli claimed his first Charles Sutton Medal as well as an All-Australian blazer and a premiership medal.

The youngest Sutton Medal winner since David Thorpe in 1968, Bontempelli well and truly earned the title of the Club’s best and fairest player in a premiership year.

Bontempelli finished 71 votes ahead of 2016 Doug Hawkins medallist Dale Morris – who was two votes clear of Gary Dempsey medallist Lachie Hunter.

Playing every game, Bontempelli averaged 24 disposals and four tackles, while defender Morris averaged four marks per game, while consistently beating some of the competition’s most dangerous forward.
