On facing the Lions earlier in Gather Round…
“The reflection aspect maybe gives you some element of confidence or belief, but there was a reminder too of how potent they can be. We were up by a bit in that game. It was a hot day, and they turned it around pretty quickly.
“We (had a couple of turnover errors) that day with Brisbane…then one or two experienced players gave the ball back unnecessarily and they gained some momentum. (The Lions) don't need much of a trigger to be able to do that. That'll keep us on edge.”
On the Dogs’ record against Top 8 teams…
“The aspect of the storyline around that won't filter in at all. As I've said before, in all those games we've been in them.
“We've been beaten by small margins against good sides. We know where they've beaten us, and in what aspects of the game.
“There are so many variables in the game that relate to better opposition just getting you by two or three goals. That won't even creep in.
“What is exciting is the opportunity. We still play three teams who are above us in the last six games.
“We've got three opportunities there. We've got three other games where we're going to be really vulnerable if we're not right on our mettle and prepared for the teams who are trying to finish off the year as well as they can.
“We understand it, but it won't have anything to do with our preparation for Brisbane other than the respect that we have for them because they're a very good side.”
On team selection…
“Over the years we've picked the team based on performance and readiness. Liam Jones has been through a period where he's been a bit crook, and he's had one or two little niggles. He's finding his way, trying to find his way to his best at state-league level.
“The team this week will be selected on previous state-league performances and health, to be ready for Brisbane.
“So there'll be some changes this week, but we'll work through it. It's an important session and we've got a flight tomorrow, so we've got to have a squad picked by the end of the day. Liam will definitely be in the mix and in discussion.”
On the latest injuries…
“We went public with Harvey Gallagher's foot injury yesterday, which was sort of out of the blue. I don't think we've had any others.
“Harmsey, he's really ill. We've only just got him back to the Club – he was away from the club for over a week, just really sick.
“So he’s going to train today but he may not even play.
“We've had one or two had some left field things come up, but everyone else who played that game last week against Adelaide should be available for selection.”
