Dogs welcome 6 to the kennel

The Western Bulldogs today welcomed six new players to the Club after using all their allocated picks in today’s AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts.
 
The Bulldogs’ first and only selection (11th overall) in the AFL Pre-season Draft was used for 197cm exciting tall forward, Fletcher Roberts from Sandringham Dragons.
 
Roberts emerged as a hot draft prospect after booting a match-winning five goals, including four in the final quarter in the TAC Cup grand final earlier this year. Read more.

VALE – Charlie Sutton (1924 – 2012)

It is with great sadness that the Western Bulldogs announce the passing of Bulldogs hero Charles (Charlie) Sutton. 

Charlie died earlier this afternoon at Western General Hospital at the age of 88. 

Charlie achieved a long list of accolades throughout his lifetime including 1954 Premiership Captain/ Coach, Coach of the Bulldogs’ Team of the Century, AFL Hall of Fame inductee and inaugural Bulldogs Hall of Fame inductee and Legend. Read more.

Dogs impress in first hit-out

Even a rainy Melbourne morning did not stop the Western Bulldogs most loyal Members and Fans from turning up to Whitten Oval in hoards on Saturday to see the team in action.

The Bulldogs intraclub hit out saw over 2000 Members and Fans attend the Bulldogs home ground in the lead up to the AFL NAB Cup competition. Read more.

Prudden picked by dogs

Inside midfielder Josh Prudden may have gone under the radar with limited exposure but the Western Bulldogs recruiting team believe they have found a gem with pick number 50 (third round selection) in the 2012 AFL National Draft.

A workhorse around the stoppages, the 18 year old will bolster the Bulldogs growing inside midfield stocks. Read more.

Redpath: No steps back

Jack Redpath received a sound piece of advice when he arrived at Whitten Oval - it doesn’t matter if you're a rookie or the captain, you're still a part of the Western Bulldogs.

This sentiment has stuck with the 21 year-old as he begins his AFL career on the rookie list. With both skipper Matthew Boyd and tenacious midfielder Liam Picken having risen through the rookie ranks, Redpath is in good company.

Dogs want ‘proper footy club’

Brendan McCartney says the Western Bulldogs are hell-bent on turning themselves into a "proper footy club" after a disappointing finish to their 2012 season.

Sunday night's 67-point loss to the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba was the Bulldogs 11th straight to finish the season.

McCartney said it had undone some good work of previous weeks that included a spirited loss against Geelong last start. Read more.

Ex-Cats to teach dogs new tricks

Geelong premiership duo Matthew Scarlett and Cameron Mooney will join the Western Bulldogs as part-time specialist coaches for 2013.

Both Scarlett and Mooney will mentor and work closely with the Club’s defenders and forwards respectively as well as gain insights into player development from Brendan McCartney and his coaching team. Read more.
