The future looks bright in the eyes of Western Bulldogs captain Matthew Boyd and yesterday’s performance from a number of young pups boosted his confidence even further.

Led by Tom Liberatore, whose 36 disposal, 12 clearance and 11 tackle outing capped off a breakout year for the 21-year-old, a number of his younger teammates also got in on the action in the Bulldogs final game in 2013.

While Lachie Hunter found a career high 22-possessions at 91% efficiency and booted two goals, Mitch Wallis continued to accumulate opposition scalps, holding Melbourne’s Nathan Jones to 19 disposals and a goal.

“They are the people that are going to take us forward,” Boyd said.

“I guess the future looks bright when you look at those sort of players.

“Libba in another fantastic game and Mitch Wallis did the job… Dahl (Luke Dahlhaus) and Lachie Hunter and those guys.”

“It’s exciting not only for the fans, the members, the supporters, staff but also for an old fossil like me, it’s exciting to see these guys start to show what they’ve got,” he said.
