Lin Jong is not known for his goal kicking capabilities but his two majors against Richmond yesterday played a pivotal part in the Western Bulldogs two point victory.

Spending more time defending goals than trying to convert his own, the 20-year-old surprised even himself with multiple scores to his name.

Jong said he was rewarded for his strong defensive efforts and repeat attempts and was happy that he could play his role for the team.

“I’m not a known goal kicker – I didn’t know what was going through my head when it was happening,” Jong said.

“I like to think I… played my role defensively and then hurt them the other way.”

Jong said that defensive mindset ensured the Bulldogs got over the line against the persistent Richmond outfit and that Senior Coach Brendan McCartney’s message remained consistent throughout the game.
