Third year rookie Lin Jong has earned a promotion to the senior list after agreeing to a deal that will keep him at the Club until the end of 2016.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed his best season to date, featuring in six AFL games and placing equal ninth in the VFL’s JJ Liston Trophy.

List Manager Jason McCartney said Jong had worked extremely hard on his game and showed some real promise, particularly this season.

“Lin started playing football as a 15-year-old, and has demonstrated some rapid improvement over that time, but most notably this year, under the guidance of our coaches and strong development program,” he said.

“Lin has genuine AFL attributes with his speed and power, and a real interest and drive in his own development.”

“We’re really pleased for Lin that he has been rewarded for the work he has put in over the past three years.”

Jong said that the contract offer was welcome news, and that he was dedicated to his own continuous improvement as an AFL footballer.

“I am extremely appreciative to receive an offer to stay at the Club and I’m look forward to my ongoing development.”

The 190cm utility will line-up in a preliminary final this weekend, and has been a key player in Footscray’s rise up the VFL ladder this year.
